Taking advantage of the fine weather, spring mulching work in Tongwei County, Gansu Province, is being carried out in an orderly manner. This year, a special mulch was introduced. This special mulch just spread to the ground and the traditional plastic mulch looks no different, but over time, this special mulch will "disappear" in the ground, both to protect the quality of arable land, but also to solve the residual film "white pollution" problem.
In the corn planting belt of Xubao village, Jichuan Town, Tongwei County, the laminating machine is working back and forth, and the biodegradable mulching film is used here. When the crop is harvested in season, the membrane on the surface degrades into fragments that can be broken down by microorganisms later on. Zhang Quansheng, secretary of the Party branch of Xubao Village, Jichuan Town, Tongwei County, said that last year, the village's cooperatives and new business owners and large growers demonstrated the application of fully biodegradable mulch film, and the effect was very good.
"Combined with years of work experience, we are now using degradable mulch, which was successful when the cooperative planted last year." Zhang Quansheng, secretary of the Party branch of Xubao Village, Jichuan Town, Tongwei County, said that after the autumn harvest, the degradable mulch will disappear by deeply loosening the land.
According to the Preliminary Opinions on Field Application Evaluation of fully biodegradable mulch issued by Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the test results of yield increase and soil environmental safety of potato, vegetable and corn crops in Gansu were generally good.
It is understood that the fully biodegradable film is composed of plastic films that can be completely decomposed by microorganisms, which mainly comes from starch, cellulose and other polysaccharide natural materials, the final product of degradation is carbon dioxide and water, etc., which can be completely consumed by nature and will not cause secondary pollution to the environment.
The effective coverage time of the fully biodegradable mulch is about 4 months, and then it will slowly "degrade". However, the degradation performance of biodegradable mulching film is greatly affected by soil moisture, temperature and microorganisms. Cui Wenxue, head of Tongwei County Energy Station, said that through full investigation in the early stage, this year, Tongwei County has promoted the application of 100,000 mu of degradable mulch for planting crops such as potatoes and corn.
