Teijin of Japan has developed a highly transparent, marine-degradable thick-mouthed straw, which has been adopted by Asahi Beverages

On April 17th, Teijin Furuite Co., Ltd. announced the development of a straw made from cellulose acetate. This straw is Marine biodegradable, highly transparent, aesthetically pleasing, and can achieve a larger diameter design compared to traditional cellulose acetate straws. This product has recently been adopted by Asahi Beverage Co., Ltd. for takeout beverage straws.

This biodegradable straw is made from the cellulose acetate resin "Neqas-Ocean" of NEQAS Company and features Marine biodegradability and high transparency.
In addition, by optimizing the manufacturing process conditions through the polymer processing technology of Teijin Fureit, a wide straw with a diameter of 11 millimeters was finally produced, which can be used in beverages such as pearl and jelly drinks. This was previously difficult to achieve. It has also been awarded the "Marine Biodegradable Biomass Plastic" mark by the Japan Bioplastics Association.

Thanks to these advantageous features, this straw was adopted by Asahi Beverage Co., LTD. As part of its comprehensive cooperation agreement with Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, it will collaborate with the local area to develop takeout straws for "Nanki Shirahama Mitsuya Original Drinks" for catering events. In the future, both sides also plan to expand the application of this straw in promotional activities and tourism facilities in Shirahama Town.

Teijin Furite takes "THINK ECO" as its environmental strategy and is developing various environmentally friendly materials and products, including "Biofront", a PLA (polylactic acid) resin that is both biodegradable and practical. The biodegradable straws launched this time also conform to this strategy. In the future, the company will also develop a variety of biodegradable plastic materials and products, providing more solutions to reduce environmental load.
